Hurghada is where most Red Sea yachts are based, with El Gouna’s marina a short drive north. The international airport is close to both marinas, so you can land in the morning and be at anchor off the Giftun islands by the afternoon.
A day boat from Hurghada shares the reefs with dozens of other boats. A private yacht lets you leave earlier, stay later and move on when a site gets busy, and a week-long charter reaches the wrecks and reefs that day boats never get to.
What you can reach from Hurghada
Giftun islands. The closest island escape, with white-sand beaches and reefs a short run from the marina.
The northern wrecks. Abu Nuhas and its wrecks, and the SS Thistlegorm in the Gulf of Suez, are within reach on a longer trip.
El Gouna and Soma Bay. Lagoons and steady wind make both a favourite for kitesurfing, and El Gouna’s marina is a lively place to start or finish a charter.
Across to the Sinai. A week from Hurghada can cross to Ras Mohammed and finish in Sharm el Sheikh.
