Sharm el Sheikh sits at the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula, a short run from two of the most famous reef areas in the Red Sea: the Ras Mohammed National Park and the Straits of Tiran. The desert and the Sinai mountains come right down to the coast, so the view from the deck is as dramatic as the one under the water.
On a private yacht you reach the reefs before the day boats arrive, anchor where they cannot stay overnight, and plan each day around your group.
Where to go from Sharm
Ras Mohammed National Park. Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef are among the best-known dive sites in the Red Sea, with walls that drop into deep blue water.
The Straits of Tiran. Four reefs in a line (Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon) between the Sinai and Tiran island.
The SS Thistlegorm. The Second World War wreck in the Gulf of Suez can be reached from Sharm as well as from Hurghada.
Ashore. Desert trips into the Sinai, and Mount Sinai and Saint Catherine’s Monastery inland for guests who want a day off the water.
